Fun Activities to Do With the Kids During Quarantine
We know times are confusing right now and life is very different than it normally is this time of year. One of those differences being the fact that if you are a parent; your kids are home! School is closed and seems to be for the foreseeable future, so we wanted to take some time to write up a list of things to do with your children as well as stuff to keep in mind during this crazy, uncertain time.
We’re being asked to stay inside and if we have to leave our homes to try and maintain a 6-foot distance from people but that doesn’t mean you can’t virtually explore favorite zoos, aquariums, and national parks across the country.
- The Cincinnati Zoo posts daily videos of its animals as well as going live every day at 3pm!
- Take a virtual tour of Yellowstone National Park.
- Visit the Baltimore National Aquarium.
- Did someone say panda cam!? The Atlanta Zoo has a live stream of their panda residents!
- The Houston Zoo has many different live camera feeds you can choose from.
- Lastly, the San Diego Zoo has numerous feeds as well of their different zoo residents!
Just because we are in quarantine doesn’t mean we can’t take advantage of our beautiful state. We are able to take hikes and experience everything the great outdoors has to offer. We just need to adhere to social distancing! That being said, don’t forget to allot some time for you and your kids to get fresh air. Running around getting energy out is imperative for the development of a young mind. We do suggest that you stay away from playgrounds, as they are not necessarily being sanitized on a regular basis. Some great spots to visit in the Portland area are Hinckley Park in South Portland, Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth, and for a beach, you can never go wrong with Willard Beach. We are so gosh darn lucky to be quarantined in a beautiful state, so take advantage!
One of the most important things you can do is to keep a normal schedule. We know how tempting it is to let your kids go crazy during this time, but maintaining structure now makes the transition back to normal life that much easier.
Lastly, remember to treat yourself. Whether that means 30 minutes to yourself to read your favorite book, or if it’s ordering up your favorite dish from your favorite local restaurant through 2DineIn, it’s important to take time for yourself as much as it is important to stimulate your kids.
What are you doing to keep your kids busy during this time?
