Winter Driving Tips from 2DineIn

As a food delivery company, as well as being Mainers, we know the importance of safe driving in the winter months. As we were compiling a list of safe-driving habits for our drivers, we thought it would be beneficial to pass on that very same knowledge to our customers, too.

The first thing we always tell our drivers is not just a winter driving tip, but a general one to be cognizant of in general. That being that be sure your tires are fully inflated and have some tread. Tread is what helps keep your car on the road, especially in wintery conditions.

Our second piece of knowledge we like to bestow upon our drivers is to never use cruise control on slippery surfaces. Most of the time this function fails to operate correctly when it is driving over a frictionless piece of road. In the same vain we teach that it’s important to accelerate slowly and to decelerate slowly. When doing so you allow your vehicle to pick up momentum/tread and to avoid skidding out.

Another tip we like to express to our drivers is to increase your following distance. No matter what type of vehicle you drive, even if you have 4-wheel drive, it’s imperative you increase your following distance. Even if you have the confidence to stop within your normal bounds, it’s better to have the margin of safety if you have to stop.

The final tip we like to pass on is that if you are encountering a hill in town it’s important to gain inertia (safely!) on a flat surface before attempting the hill. You want physics to take care of it for you. If you try to “power” through it with gas, you’re only going to make your tires spin and you won’t gain any traction.

We hope you find these tips beneficial and something you can sue in your daily life!

If you have any safe driving tips for the wintertime; we’d love to hear them! Feel free to leave a comment on this post or shoot us a message on any of our social media channels!
